OrangeThreat levelUnchanged from yesterday

The Iran war still sets the level: CENTCOM announced Task Force Iron Gate on Nov 7 and said US forces disabled the cargo ship M/V Huda, President Trump confirmed 'minor' US strikes on Qeshm Island, Iran's military said two more tankers hit mines (not independently confirmed), and Hormuz remains restricted with no deal announced. AAA's national averages eased again to $4.02 for regular gasoline and $6.19 for diesel on Nov 8, and Brent and WTI settled Nov 6 at $98.32 and $90.83. The LA/Long Beach watchmen strike did not start: the deadline was extended to Nov 20. A federal warning on refrigeration and cold-storage controls stands, with US cases limited to military commissaries. No major US grid or communications outage is underway; the South Texas flood watch and Florida's St. Johns River flooding are regional.

Drops to Yellow if A US-Iran deal is announced and tankers move through Hormuz in volume, and fuel prices keep fallingGoes Red if US-Iran strikes widen, the Nov 20 port deadline passes without a deal, or oil and fuel prices climb again

CISA, the FBI and three departments warned Nov 5 that internet-connected refrigeration controls are being targeted; Nextgov reports roughly six US military commissaries affected since late August and names no civilian US store. European grocers and French blood banks were hit in waves through Nov 2. No responsible party is named in the federal notice; anonymous officials suspecting Iran is not an on-record finding (Defense One). No new US case found Nov 7-8.

Greenacres, Fla., Learjet crash (9 dead): NTSB recovers more wreckage

The NTSB said the Learjet 60 crashed Nov. 1 killing all nine aboard. The crew reported light ice and moderate turbulence shortly before an overspeed condition and rapid descent. Investigators recovered three pieces of the left elevator up to about 3.8 miles from the site and part of an engine, and have not determined whether the elevator separated before the crash or because of crash forces. A preliminary report is expected about 30 days after the crash.

Comms chatter What people are saying vs. what we found

The US Space Force took over the FAA's air traffic control at 1 a.m. Eastern, as part of a slide toward World War III.
Circulating on Facebook post Nov 5, shared on Threads and X; first version on X the Monday before
What we foundSnopes rated it false (Nov 6). An FAA spokesperson told Snopes there is absolutely no truth to it and a Space Force spokesperson called the claims false. Snopes found no credible outlet reporting a transfer and said the post text tested as AI-generated.
A Michigan poll worker found a Wi-Fi signal from a foreign device inside a vote tabulator on Election Day.
Circulating on X (reposted Nov 3 by Lara Logan per NewsGuard), election-integrity accounts
What we foundLead Stories rated it unsupported. The person pushing the claim, Patrick Colbeck of the Election Crime Bureau, declined to name the poll worker, the location or any agency. The Michigan Department of State reportedly called it complete nonsense and said it had no such report. NewsGuard noted Michigan says tabulators are not connected to the internet while counting.
A map shows Democrats won 64 US Senate seats on Nov 3.
Circulating on Facebook post Nov 4 with #Bluewave hashtags
What we foundLead Stories rated the map fabricated. The AP count on Nov 5 showed Democrats with 54 seats and Republicans with 44, with Alaska and Mississippi undecided. Winning both would give Democrats at most 56.
Photos show the Eiffel Tower and Colosseum lit blue to celebrate Democrats' midterm wins.
Circulating on Facebook and X collages
What we foundLead Stories rated the viral Colosseum and Eiffel Tower collage fake and AI-made: AI detectors flagged the images, the Eiffel Tower's official site says it was lit blue in 2006, 2008 and 2022 for the EU, and no established outlet reported either landmark lit blue for the midterms. The collage also showed Niagara Falls, which ran as a separate claim Nov 5.

Chatter volume: moderate — post-midterm fake screenshots, fake maps and fraud claims dominate the fact-checkers; the Iran, grid and doomsday threads were quiet in the sources checked.

No US grid attack or large outage found for Nov 7-8.

No US grid attack or large outage found for Nov 7-8. DOE's 2026 Federal Power Act 202(c) emergency-order page (read Nov 8) shows one new action: on Nov 6 DOE issued Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority orders 202-25-1F and 202-25-2F, effective Nov 8 and expiring Feb 5, 2027, requiring specified generating units to run under certain circumstances and vegetation and asset upkeep on specified transmission facilities. As of Nov 7 the page's other orders were unchanged from the prior read; as of Nov 6, Utility Dive reported the Stanton Unit 1 (Florida) order runs to Nov 30. FORTRESS America (Pentagon effort to let major bases run without the civilian grid): Snopes calls it a real initiative announced Sep 30 and says the reported 90-day self-sufficiency standard is not publicly confirmed by the Pentagon; no step past planning found. As of Oct 7, DefenseScoop reported a memo setting up a program office. As of Nov 2, Pepco's Foggy Bottom substation incident (about 1,100 customers; cause under investigation, per Anadolu) was not re-checked. EO 14421 DOE rule date (Dec 24) not confirmed. Iran's military said a tanker east of the Strait of Hormuz hit a mine and caught fire; Washington says mines have been cleared (Al Jazeera, CBS). The UK maritime monitor UKMTO recorded at least 11 ships attacked in and around the strait in the week to Nov 6, with transits about 65% below pre-conflict levels (Al Jazeera). On Nov 7 US Central Command announced Task Force Iron Gate, a roughly 20-person unit to stop weapons and illicit revenue crossing Iran's land borders and the Caspian Sea, and said US forces disabled the cargo ship M/V Huda in the Gulf of Oman after it ignored blockade warnings; details of how the task force will operate were not given (CBS). The IRGC said it lifted a self-imposed missile range limit; it did not say whether Iran has missiles beyond that range (CBS). Qatar and others are mediating; Iran has listed seven conditions to reopen the strait and no deal has been announced (Al Jazeera). Ukraine: Russia fired 36 ballistic missiles and 172 drones at Ukraine overnight Nov 6-7; Zelensky said Ukraine intercepted four of the missiles; authorities reported at least two killed and about a dozen wounded and substations hit in five regions (Al Jazeera). Refrigeration open thread re-checked. The Nov 5 CISA/FBI fact sheet (with Agriculture, HHS and Transportation) remains the newest federal action: attackers could force refrigeration units into continuous heating or defrost and block operators from seeing temperatures; advice is to take controls off the public internet, secure remote access, separate from business networks, change default passwords, update and retire unsupported gear (Nextgov/FCW). US cases remain roughly six military commissaries since late August under Pentagon investigation; Nextgov names no civilian US store among the affected sites, and the notice names no responsible party. Nextgov quotes an expert saying the pattern aligns with Iranian hackers; anonymous US officials suspecting Iran (Defense One, Nov 2) is not an on-record finding. Europe: hundreds of French establishments in October; a new wave in Sweden, Belgium, Luxembourg and three French blood banks around Nov 2. Fortune also covers the Pentagon probe. A Nov 7 Substack post on Fort Huachuca temperatures is unverified and not relied on. CISA's advisories page (read Nov 8) newest item is Nov 6: one Known Exploited Vulnerabilities addition; no new numbered advisory. No new US hospital, water or utility attack found for Nov 6-8 (search found only older items, e.g. the late-July Minnesota water attacks and an Aug hospital outage). Could not check: FBI IC3, Health-ISAC, state hospital reports, full KEV entries.
