Bloomington, Ill., shooting near Illinois Wesleyan: no arrest, suspect sought

Local and Chicago-area outlets reported one person (a 19-year-old woman, per WGLT) died and eight others were hurt (WGLT) at a party on East Division Street near Illinois Wesleyan University at about 1:23 a.m. Nov. 1; some early reports counted seven. No suspect is in custody as of Nov. 7. WGLT reported Police Chief Jamal Simington said Nov. 7 the investigation so far indicates no IWU students were involved or targeted and police need more witnesses. Earlier reports said police were working with the FBI, ATF, Illinois State Police and McLean County Sheriff's Office and saw no ongoing threat. Tips: Detective Pedro Diaz, 309-434-2532.

Des Moines, Iowa: postal worker shot 2 coworkers at main post office; suspect in custody

As of the Nov. 7 report (not re-checked Nov. 8): AP (via KSAT) reported police got calls about 9:10 a.m. Nov 5; a female postal employee shot two female coworkers (ages 45 and 53) on the second floor, in an area closed to the public. A 55-year-old male employee was hurt in a fall escaping. Injuries are not believed life-threatening. The suspect, a 39-year-old woman from West Des Moines, was detained at 9:21 a.m. on a bike path without resistance; a 9 mm handgun was recovered. She faces two counts of attempted murder, two of willful injury causing serious injury, and intimidation. Nearby school entry was briefly restricted, then lifted. Status: Suspect in custody; scene cleared.
