Greenacres, Florida, Learjet crash: NTSB says left elevator was recovered, aircraft may have separated in flight

A Learjet 60 crashed in Greenacres on Sunday, Nov. 1, killing all 9 aboard. Aviation Week reported that NTSB board member Thomas Chapman said Nov. 3 that investigators recovered most of the left elevator, which may indicate the aircraft began to separate in flight before impact; CBS12 reported pieces were found miles from the crash site. The Watchers reported pilots described an overspeed condition and a steep descent before impact. The NTSB has not given a cause. The NTSB and FAA are investigating (NTSB case ERA27MA026 per The Watchers). Earlier coverage said the crew reported ice and turbulence, and CBS12 reported about 600 residents were displaced; whether they have returned was not found.
