New York reports its first measles death in more than 30 years: a child in Lewis County
New York's health department announced Nov. 2 that a child died of measles, the state's first measles-associated death in more than 30 years, NBC News reported. The child's age and vaccination status were not released. The state has 178 cases this year, 170 of them outside New York City and 15 in Lewis County, a rural county in northern New York. Gov. Hochul declared a disaster emergency over the outbreak in October, and the CDC sent epidemiologists at the state's request. Officials urged residents to keep up with vaccination; two MMR doses are about 97% protective, per NBC. This is a different outbreak from Pennsylvania's 1,433 cases already in the draft. Also add to the Health card (Measles line) in the national board.
