The main item is the possible strike by about 250 Los Angeles and Long Beach port watchmen: the deadline was 5 p.m. PT Wednesday Nov 4 per most outlets (Baird Maritime says Nov 5), and no report of a deal or a strike was found. Forecasters are watching a possible atmospheric river (a long plume of heavy moisture) for Nov 10-12.

Spangle, Washington: deputy dies, second deputy not expected to survive after domestic-violence call shooting

Spokane County deputies were sent about 2:25 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 3, to a home on South Smythe Road near Spangle after a woman told a neighbor her brother had shot her, KHQ reported. Sheriff John Nowels said the suspect had an active felony warrant and was found dead; SWAT deputies were shot as they approached. The Sheriff's Office said Wednesday that one deputy died overnight and the second is on life support and not expected to survive; it released no names. Sources differ on the total killed: CBS and KXLY reported three dead including the suspect early, and later reports (Fox 13 Tampa/other outlets) put it at four including a deputy; the woman who was shot was taken to a hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening, per KHQ. The Washington State Patrol is handling the independent investigation and Spokane police the homicide investigation. US-195 and I-90 closures for medical helicopters ended; US-195 reopened by 9:26 p.m. Tuesday. No suspect at large.

The watchmen work at terminals handling about 85% of Long Beach cargo and 33% of Los Angeles cargo, and employers say other ILWU workers are unlikely to cross picket lines. Federal mediators are assisting. No settlement or strike report was found in this pass; confirm before relying on it.
