OrangeThreat levelUnchanged from yesterday

The Iran war still sets the level: the US confirmed new 'minor' strikes near Qeshm Island, Iran claims more tankers hit mines, and Hormuz remains restricted with no deal announced. Oil ended the week lower (Brent about $98) and stocks were mixed Friday, but AAA's national averages are still $4.04 for gasoline and $6.21 for diesel. A federal warning on grocery and cold-storage temperature controls stands, and the outcome of the LA/Long Beach watchmen strike deadline was not yet reported. No major US grid or communications outage is underway; flooding in Florida and the Georgia-Tennessee line is regional.

Drops to Yellow if A US-Iran deal is announced and tankers move through Hormuz in volume, and fuel prices keep fallingGoes Red if US-Iran strikes widen, the port strike begins, or oil and fuel prices climb again

US strikes near Iran's Qeshm Island; Hormuz still restricted and no deal announced

President Trump confirmed what he called 'minor' US strikes on an Iranian anti-aircraft site near Qeshm Island, and Iranian media reported two missiles hit the island; the extent of damage is not independently confirmed (CBS, Gulf News). The Revolutionary Guard claimed it downed another US MQ-1 drone and that two more tankers hit mines; maritime officials have not confirmed the tanker claims. A crew member died in an explosion aboard the Marshall Islands-flagged tanker Velos Sapphire; its operator suspects a missile, but the cause is not established (Gulf News). Qatar is still carrying proposals between the sides and no deal to reopen the strait has been announced.

LA/Long Beach watchmen strike: outcome of the midnight Nov 6 deadline not yet reported

The contract with about 250 port watchmen (ILWU Local 26) was extended to midnight Pacific Friday Nov 6 while federal mediators met. We found no report dated after the deadline of either a deal, another extension or a strike, so none is stated here. The employer group said terminals using these watchmen handle about 85% of Long Beach and 33% of Los Angeles cargo.

A video shows Iran striking a US aircraft carrier on Nov. 3.
Circulating on X, Facebook
What we foundLead Stories found the clip is AI-generated and has circulated since at least May 28, 2026. Its AI detector rated it 99% likely AI-made. It found no news reports of such an attack and nothing on CENTCOM's X account or press releases.
A video proves a massive 2026 voter-registration fraud scheme in Pennsylvania.
Circulating on X, Facebook (post-midterm)
What we foundLead Stories (Nov 5) says the video is from a 2024 press conference about a Lancaster County case, and the county DA's office told it the clip was from the prior election. The 2024 case itself was real: Lead Stories says officials reported about 2,500 applications at the 2024 registration deadline, and the county DA's office told it the state Attorney General's office took the case over.
Iran's Revolutionary Guard says it shot down a 16th US MQ-1 drone over Qeshm Island on Nov 6.

No US grid attack, large outage or new DOE emergency order found for Nov 6-7.

No US grid attack, large outage or new DOE emergency order found for Nov 6-7. DOE's 2026 Federal Power Act 202(c) emergency-order list (read Nov 7) still shows Order 202-26-50, issued Oct 12 to PJM for Oct 13-16, as the newest. Orders keeping older plants available remain in force: Craig Unit 1 in Colorado (Sep 27 to Dec 25), Culley 2 and Schahfer 17-18 in Indiana (to Dec 18) and Centralia Unit 2 in Washington (to Dec 11). As of Nov 6, Utility Dive reported the Stanton Unit 1 (Florida) order, 202-26-42, runs to Nov 30; that order was not on the page excerpt read Nov 7, so renewal after Nov 30 is not known. A Pepco substation incident in Washington's Foggy Bottom on Nov 2 left about 1,100 customers without power; Pepco said the cause was under investigation and nothing calls it an attack (Anadolu); we did not find a restoration update. FORTRESS America (the Pentagon effort to let major bases run without the civilian grid): Snopes (page blocked Nov 7, search snippet only) calls it a real initiative announced Sep 30, with a reported 90-day self-sufficiency goal; no new November program step found. As of Oct 7, DefenseScoop reported a memo setting up a program office. EO 14421 (Aug 2026): no new DOE rule found; the Dec 24 date was not confirmed. Could not check: NERC and FERC pages (FERC returned 403), ERCOT/PJM/MISO alerts. A 2026-27 NERC winter assessment did not appear in search (the 2025 one came out in November 2025).

Refrigeration open thread re-checked. On Nov 5 CISA and the FBI, with the Departments of Agriculture, Health and Human Services and Transportation, warned of an ongoing threat to internet-connected refrigeration and cold-chain monitoring systems (CISA fact sheet dated Nov 5; TechCrunch). Attackers could force units into continuous heating or defrost, with risks of spoiled stock, equipment damage and fire. Advice: take controls off the public internet, secure needed remote access, separate them from business networks, change default passwords, install updates, retire unsupported equipment (Nextgov/FCW). US cases are still the roughly six military commissaries since late August, which the Pentagon is investigating; the reports name no civilian US store (Nextgov/FCW, TechCrunch). The notice names no responsible party; TechCrunch reported some affected Danfoss units no longer got security updates, and that security researchers broadly point to Iran while US officials reportedly suspect Iran. Defense One's anonymous-source report (Nov 2) is not an on-the-record finding. Europe: hundreds of French establishments in October; a new wave hit supermarkets in Sweden, Belgium and Luxembourg and three French blood banks overnight into Nov 2; the European Commission, ENISA, Europol and national authorities issued a joint warning Nov 4 (Nextgov/FCW). A Substack post claims the Defense Commissary Agency blamed European commissary outages on equipment wear; we could not verify it and do not rely on it. CISA's advisory page (read Nov 7) lists, after the Nov 5 refrigeration fact sheet, one Known Exploited Vulnerabilities addition on Nov 6; no new numbered advisory was seen. Nov 5: a coalition of 35 national groups urged Congress to extend a federal cybersecurity law for 10 years (Western Water). Water: as of Jul 31, CISA and FBI warned of a 'significant escalation' in attacks on water-utility controllers (Cybersecurity Dive). No new US hospital, water or utility attack found for Nov 5-6. Could not check: FBI IC3, state-level hospital reports, full KEV entries.

Georgia-Tennessee flooding (recovery): WSB Radio reported Georgia Emergency Management Agency officials cited one death, more than 50 people rescued by boat in Fannin County and more than 60 in Copperhill, Tenn., and the Toccoa River reaching about 18 feet, its highest recorded flood stage. As of Nov 6, water had mostly receded in McCaysville, Ga., and Copperhill, Tenn.; the overnight curfew ended Friday morning; a boil-water advisory continues, and Fannin County emergency management warned most McCaysville water customers would lose service as reserves run out; Fannin County schools closed Nov 6; the state of emergency covers Fannin, Gilmer, Union and Murray counties. East-central Florida flooding (recovery): MyNews13 (Nov 6) reported floodwaters receding in Palm Bay and recovery under way. As of Nov 5-6 in the previous report: 2 dead (ABC News, Nov 3), up to 24 inches of rain in southern Brevard County, a state of emergency covering 14 counties, and Flood Warnings from NWS Melbourne. Overnight Nov 6 the NWS alerts feed still listed Flood Warnings for Brevard, Seminole, Lake, Volusia and DeSoto counties, Fla.; Maricopa County, Ariz.; Benton, Iowa and Keokuk counties, Iowa; and Platte County, Mo. The same feed showed no Tornado Warnings or Flash Flood Emergencies among its severe and extreme alerts. Outlook (Weather Prediction Center, 3 AM EST Nov 7): fair weather for most of the country under a large high-pressure system; cold rain from the lower Great Lakes to New England today into tonight, with wet snow possible on higher New England terrain tonight into Sunday morning; heavy rain from southern New Mexico and west Texas moving to southern Texas Sunday into Monday, where WPC has a Slight Risk (level 2 of 4) of excessive rainfall; the Pacific Northwest gets quick-moving storms with gusty winds. Storm Prediction Center (SPC, 11:59 PM CST Nov 6): no severe thunderstorm areas forecast today. Santa Clarita Valley, Calif.: a Red Flag Warning (high fire danger) from Santa Ana winds was reported to expire Saturday afternoon (Santa Clarita Valley News via search). Tropics (National Hurricane Center, 1 AM EST Nov 7): a non-tropical low south-southeast of Bermuda has a 10% chance of gaining tropical or subtropical traits in 48 hours and 7 days (down from 20% and 30% yesterday); gale-force winds likely over the central subtropical Atlantic this weekend. In the Pacific, the area near Hawaii became Tropical Storm Pena, several hundred miles south-southeast of the Big Island; NHC expects no further formation in the central Pacific for 7 days. NHC also gives 30% for a low off Central America, which could bring heavy rain there. Space weather (NOAA SWPC, 08:45 UTC Nov 7): geomagnetic (G, 1 minor to 5 extreme), radio blackout (R) and radiation storm (S) scales are all 0 now. A G1 (minor) Watch runs Nov 7-9 from a fast solar-wind stream out of a coronal hole; SWPC says a G2 (moderate) chance exists. SWPC's alert says weak power-grid fluctuations can occur, mostly poleward of 60 degrees geomagnetic latitude, with aurora possible in the northern tier of states such as northern Michigan and Maine. R1-R2 chance 35% and R3 or greater 10% daily; no radio blackouts in the last 24 hours. The 2 MeV electron flux alert (particles that can affect satellites) continues; the Nov 5 peak was 2,197 particles per unit. No G3 or higher and no SWPC grid warning.
